Cap Zanser was a fictional scientist featured in episode fifteen of Tales of Tomorrow entitled "The Dune Roller". He was played by actor Truman Smith.
Biography[]
Cap Zanser was a scientist working out of Lightning Island on Lake Michigan. He worked alongside biologists Sam Thorne and Carl Burgess. Cap enjoyed spending time with Carl's daughter Sally, regaling her with tall tales of island folklore concerning the dune rollers. Although he worked primarily out of Doctor Thorne's laboratory cottage, Cap maintained his own small shack down the shore from them. In 1952, Cap had collected several samples of small rocks which were similar to quartz stone. Carl and Sam had discovered that these samples possessed inexplicable properties and appeared to be fusing together with one another. During a terrible rainstorm, Cap Zanser walked back to his shack to gather some more of his own samples. While he was there, he noticed a strange, eerie light coming out over the lake. Something about this light frightened Cap and he immediately telephoned Sam and Carl. Afterward, he began to make his way back to the lab when he noticed that the lights out on the lake had grown larger and were now following him. Cap had no way of knowing that the legend of the "dune roller" was in fact true and that they were now following him. As the growing meteorite came closer, it unleashed a blinding flash of light that killed Cap. Sam and Carl discovered his body moments later and came to the conclusion that he had been struck by lightning. In truth, it was the alien rock samples in his coat pocket that drew the dune roller to him.
