Canute ultimately betrayed Captain Walton's ship discovered the frozen remains of the Frankenstein Monster, which they dug out and allowed to thaw. Canute became an enemy of the creature and tried to destroy him. During this affair, the "ghost ship" that they had been upon broke apart and the collapsing timbers fell upon Canute, killing him. Captain Walton begged the monster to retrieve him, unaware of his guide's treachery. The monster reluctantly heeded Walton's wishes and found Canute's body, which was buried soon after. [1]
