Following the incident in Harlem between the Hulk and the Abomination, scientist Bruce Banner relocated to Calcutta where he was continuing his work to find a cure to stop him from transforming into the Hulk. During a low point, Banner tried to commit suicide by shooting himself through the mouth, but "The Big Buy" spit the bullet back out. When S.H.I.E.L.D. needed Banner's expertise in gamma radiation to help them track down the stolen tesseract, they sent Agent Natasha Romanov to retrieve him.
