Caesar is a fictional evolved ape and a central character featured in the Planet of the Apes multimedia franchise. He is the main protagonist in the remake series by Chernin Entertainment and first appeared in Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011. He was brought to life by the computerized visual magic of WETA and was portrayed by actor Andy Serkis, who wore a motion capture suit during his scenes, and also provided the voice for Caesar. Serkis reprised the role of Caesar for the film's sequels, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014, and War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017.
