C.P.O. Garrison was a fictional military officer featured in the Star Trek television franchise. Played by actor Adam Roarke, he appeared in the original unaired pilot episode of the first Star Trek series "The Cage".

Biography[]

Garrison was an enlisted member of Starfleet and a non-commissioned-officer holding the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During the mid-23rd century, he served as Communications Officer aboard the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 under Captain Christopher Pike. Garrison intercepted a string of radio signals that appeared to originate from the Talos Star Group. The crew of the Enterprise were led to believe that this was part of a distress signal from the SS Columbia, a science research vessel that diappeared in 2236.

C.P.O. Garrison was one of six men to join the initial landing party on Talos IV in search of survivors from the Columbia. He encountered a small camp of human colonists, but this was later revealed to be just an elaborate illusion created by the telepathic Talosians. When Captain Pike was abducted by the Talosians and pulled underground, Garrison and the rest of the landing party attempted to rescue him. They fired their phasers into the bedrock of the canyon wall where Pike disappeared, but their weapons proved ineffective. Garrison returned to the Enterprise but went back to Talos IV with a group armed with a large laser cannon. This too proved fruitless.

A third attempt to beam down to the surface of the planet was thwarted by the Talosians, who only allowed the female members of the landing party to make it to the surface. [1]

Shortly thereafter, the USS Enterprise made First Contact with a race of aliens known as the Calligar. C.P.O. Garrison was present at this time. [2]

It is unclear how long Garrison continued to serve aboard the Enterprise following the Talos mission and First Contact with the Calligar, but he was not a member of the crew when James T. Kirk took command of the ship in 2264. C.P.O. Garrison's position was succeeded by Lieutenant Nyota Uhura.
