The Butterfly Effect is an American feature film of the science fiction genre. It was written and directed by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber. It was produced by BenderSpink, FilmEngine and New Line Cinema. The film premiered theatrically in the United States on January 23rd, 2004. The movie stars Ashton Kutcher as Evan Treborn - a man who experienced random blackouts when he was a child. Now as a young man, he develops the ability to send his adult consciousness into his own body in the past, in the hopes of re-shaping events in the future.
