Brushnev separated young Natasha Romanov from her "parents" and indoctrinated her into the Red Room. It was Brushnev who came up with the code-name "Black Widow", and outfitted her with a black costume, which included suction boots and a grappling hook bracelet, which was later upgraded into specially designed gauntlets.
