Brunnhilde is a fictional warrior and a recurring character featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. She first appeared in The Defenders, Volume 1 #4 in February, 1973.
Biography[]
Brunnhilde was a shield maiden of the Valkyior - The Chosen of the Slain of Asgard. She was charged by All-Father Odin to ferry the souls of those who have died in battle into the realm of Valhalla.
Brunnhilde came to Earth where her spirit bonded with that of Samantha Parrington, in much the same way that Thor Odinson bonded with Donald Blake. This situation was caused by the machinations of the Enchantress, who had enslaved Brunnhilde's spirit, and kept it as her personal plaything. Brunnhilde's essence later bonded with another Earth human, Barbara Norriss.
The Valkyrie became one of the first recruits in the New York based superhero team, the Defenders.
