Brian Cox is an Emmy Award-winning Scottish actor. He is also known for his work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he gained great recognition for his portrayal of King Lear. Cox's first role in a science fiction feature was the obscure 1989 film Murder on the Moon. Since then, he has appeared in episodes of television programs such as Red Dwarf, Doctor Who and The Day of the Triffids. In related media, Cox has also played the role of antagonist William Stryker in X-Men 2. In 2011, Cox played the role of John Landon in Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet of the Apes; a role originally played by Robert Gunner in the first Planet of the Apes film in 1968.
