Biography[]
Brett Mahoney was a male African American who worked as a police officer for the New York City Police Department in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan. Young lawyers Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson were always trying to get information from Mahoney about recent incidents. Nelson attempted to bribe Mahoney for info by buying cigars for his grandmother (which Mahoney didn't appreciate). Despite this, he occasionally provided the team of Nelson & Murdock with a nugget of good information. [1]
Soon after, an enigmatic guardian began making appearances throughout the city named Daredevil, or, as he had come to be known - The Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Mahoney took exception to vigilante justice as he felt it undermined the authority of the NYPD. This attitude was strengthened when another vigilante, the Punisher, began a killing spree throughout the Hell's Kitchen underworld.
When Daredevil found himself in position to take the Punisher down, he recalled Mahoney's words about vigilante justice. The Punisher himself was gravely injured and was no position to fight against being apprehended. Daredevil told Mahoney that he needed to make the bust so the record would show that it was the NYPD who succeeded in capturing the Punisher and not another masked vigilante. [2]
The capture of the Punisher became a major feather in the cap of the New York City Police Department, and as a result, Brett Mahoney received a promotion and was made a detective sergeant. [3]
