The brain cell stimulator is a fictional item featured in comic books published by DC Comics. It is associated with Pre-Crisis Earth-One continuity and relates to the Superman line of comic titles. It appeared in the story from Superman #201 (Nov. 1967) titled "Clark Kent Abandons Superman!" The brain cell stimulator was developed by scientists from the shrunken Kryptonian city of Kandor. Superman failed to save the life of an archaologist named Professor Steele and was overcome with guilt. He sought therapy from the Kandorians who recommended using the brain cell stimulator in order to give him partial amnesia, so he would not remember the event. Superman agreed, and the scientists placed a head-piece onto him, which projected energy into his brain. The device failed to remove the memory however, and only succeeded in making Superman bitter. As a result, he decided to exile himself from the planet Earth so that he would no longer be a threat to anyone.
