- The character of Boomer was created by executive producer, developer and teleplay writer Glen A. Larson.
- Boomer appeared in all twenty-two episodes of Battlestar Galactica and five episodes of Galactica 1980, including the series finale, "The Return of Starbuck".
- Boomer was a Colonial Viper pilot and a member of Blue Squadron.
- The character of Boomer was reimagined for the 2003 Battlestar Galactica miniseries and the 2004 Battlestar Galactica regular series. The character went from being a male to a female and was played by actress Grace Park. The character's actual name is Sharon Valerii, but the name Boomer was used as a call sign during her service aboard the Galactica.
- Prior to his stint on Battlestar Galactica, actor Herbert Jefferson, Jr. has also appeared on episodes of The Immortal, Rod Serling's Night Gallery, The Partidge Family and Mission: Impossible. Following Galactica 1980, Jefferson appeared in episodes of Knight Rider, The Devlin Connection, Airwolf, The Dukes of Hazard, The Fall Guy, Hill Street Blues and many more.
- Boomer was the last member of the Galactica crew to see Lieutenant Starbuck alive. Boomer was Starbuck's wingman during the Cylon assaulted that resulted in Starbuck's Viper becoming lost. [1]
- Boomer was one of two main characters from Battlestar Galactica who were African American. The other was Colonel Tigh played by Terry Carter.
