A blaster is a general slang term referring to a laser gun. These are hand-held single-person weapons featured in the Star Wars multimedia franchise. Larger artillery weapons or turbo laser carriages are almost never referred to as blasters. Like most laser-based weapons, they employ mechanics similar to that of a standard handheld firearm, but instead of bullets, they emit a bolt of amplified light, or "laser", energy. They also go "pew pew" when you fire them. Most blasters are lethal in standard mode, but may also come equipped with a stun setting. There are some forms of protective body armor that are blaster resistant. If they Stormtroopers ever hear about this, the rebels might actually find themselves in a spot of trouble.
