- The character of Blade was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan. He first appeared in Tomb of Dracula #10 in July, 1973.
- The tagline for this film is "The power of an immortal. The soul of a human. The heart of a hero.".
- Principal photography on Blade began on February 5th, 1997 and concluded on June 6th.
- Filmed in Long Beach, California, Moscow, Russia, Vancouver, British Columbia and Death Valley National Park in California.
- Blade was first released on DVD by New Line Home Video on December 22nd, 1998.
- Director Stephen Norrington makes a cameo appearance as a vampire in this film.
- Deacon Frost, as presented in this film, is radically different from his Marvel Comics counterpart. The comic version of Deacon Frost was created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan and first appeared in Tomb of Dracula #13.
- The character of Abraham Whistler was actually introduced in the 1994-1998 Spider-Man animated series. To date, he has no canonical Marvel Comics counterpart.
- This is the first time that Blade is ever given a proper name. A quick shot of his mother's driver's license in the beginning of the film establishes his surname as Brooks and later in the film, his mother calls him Eric. Marvel Comics has since retroactively established Eric Brooks as Blade's real name.
- A recreated set of the Blood Club was built for Halloween Horror Nights theme attraction at Universal Studios.
- Traci Lords, who plays the vampire Raquel at the beginning of the film, is a former adult film star.
