The Blackwood Institute was a high-level government crisis management consultant firm whose function was to create contingency plans for use in emergencies ranging from natural disasters to nuclear war. Their research led them towards investigating a First Contact scenario involving an alien species when they discovered a distressed Naval vessel in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Spearheaded by Deputy National Security Advisor J.T. Baylock, he initiated a top-secret program dubbed the "Threshold Protocol" and assigned contingency analyst Molly Anne Caffrey to put together a team to study the extraterrestrial phenomena. Her team included macrobiolgist Doctor Nigel Fenway, astronautical engineer Lucas Pegg, Federal agent Sean Cavennaugh and linguististics expert and mathematician Arthur Ramsey. Caffrey's group was code-named "Red Team".
Notes & Trivia[]
- The Blackwood Institute was created by series developer and supervising producer Bragi F. Schut, producer David S. Goyer and executive producer Brannon Braga. The Institute and it's members were featured in all thirteen episodes of the CBS television series Threshold, nine of which were originally aired in the United States, with the remaining four episodes airing on Sky1 in the UK. The entire series was later rebroadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2006.
