The story was written by Geoff Johns with artwork by Ivan Reis and inks by Oclair Albert & Rob Hunter. It was colored by Alex Sinclair and lettered by Nick J. Napolitano. The story was edited by Eddie Berganza with Adam Schlagman as associate editor. This issue shipped with a June, 2009 cover date and was issued as a free giveaway as part of the Free Comic Book Day promotion.

- The character of Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern, was created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane. He first appeared in Showcase #22 in October, 1959 in a story titled "S.O.S. Green Lantern!" He received his first ongoing Green Lantern comic book series in August, 1960.
- This issue is reprinted in the Blackest Night hardcover collection, released in September, 2010, and the Blackest Night trade paperback collection, released in September, 2011.
