Black Widow is an American feature film of the spy-thriller and superhero fantasy genres. It is the twenty-fourth film in the shared continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was directed by Cate Shortland with a script written by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson. It was produced by Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Productions and was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1st, 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

- The character of Natasha Romanoff was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck. She first appeared in Tales of Suspense #52 in April, 1964.
- This is the first film released as part of Phase IV of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. [2]
- Black Widow is the second film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe focusing on a single female lead. The first was Captain Marvel in 2019. Of equal note, Evangeline Lilly had a co-starring lead role in Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018.
- In addition to Scarlett Johansson reprising the role of Natasha Romanoff, it was announced on July 20th, 2019 that other cast members slated to appear in the film include Stranger Things actor David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov, aka the Red Guardian, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, O-T Fagbenie as Mason, and Rachel Weisz as Melina. - Filming for Black Widow took place across Europe including parts of Norway, and Budapest, Hungary. [4]
- The events of this film take place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, but before the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
- It was announced in June, 2019 that actor Ray Winstone would be joining the cast of Black Widow. At the time, the character he was set to portray was unrevealed. [5]
