The Black Queen is a title used by several different characters featured in comic books published by both Marvel Comics and DC Comics.
Marvel Comics In Marvel Comics, the title refers to one of the members of the Inner Circle of the exclusive and elite criminal cartel, the Hellfire Club. The title was first used by Jean Grey, who had been brainwashed by a mutant named Mastermind. This was later revealed to actually be an aspect of the Phoenix Force, which had assumed Jean's form. Jean's successor in the role was Selene - a mutant vampire who steals the life energy from her victims.

DC Comics In DC Comics, the Black Queen is one of the chessboard titles utilized by the government espionage agency Checkmate. There have been two individuals to hold the title, the most well known of which is Sasha Bordeaux. Sasha was once the bodyguard of Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, who was recruited by Maxwell Lord to be his right-hand man in Checkmate. Sasha was critically injured during a fight with a robotic OMAC, but underwent cybernetic conversion and continued to serve with Checkmate even after the death of Maxwell Lord.
