The Black Pyramid is a fictional residence and fortress featured in the ThunderCats multimedia franchise. It is a pivotal setting in all iterations of the franchise and first appeared in the 1985-1989 ThunderCats animated series.
Description[]
The Black Pyramid is located in the futuristic timeline of Third Earth. It is a pyramid constructed from black stone surrounded by four pillars. It is the home of the ancient sorcerer Mumm-Ra and serves as a power reservoir for the Ancient Spirits of Evil, who are elder demons who bequeath Mumm-Ra power and immortality in exchange for servitude.
In his natural state, Mumm-Ra exists as a decrepit, decaying undead mummy, who must remain within a sarcophagus within the pyramid whenever he is at rest. By calling upon the power of the Ancient Spirits, he can shed his wrappings and enjoy renewed health and vigor. Mumm-Ra's servants, the Mutants of Plun-Darr, often reside at the Black Pyramid to do Mumm-Ra's bidding. This includes Slithe, Jackalman, Monkian and Vultureman.
History[]
Mumm-Ra gathered the Mutants of Plun-Darr together to look through a scrying pool so he could assess his underlings' past defeats at the hands (or claws) of the ThunderCats. Embarking upon a new scheme, Mumm-Ra called on his power to alter his form to that of a Ro-Bear Berbil so he could infiltrate Cats' Lair. [1]
