Bison are a species of mammal of the bovine family. They are similar to buffalo, but are only distantly related to true buffalo. They are native to the Great Plains region of the United States, but are also found in parts of Mexico. During the 19th and early 20th century, the bison has been hunted nearly to extinction.
In the 2022 film Prey, a group of Canadian voyageurs are found hunting bison and leaving their corpses to rot in the forests.
