In Sci-fi[]

A version of Bill Clinton was lampooned in the 2000 sci-fi/comedy spoof 2001: A Space Travesty. He was played by actor Damian Mason. In the film, President Clinton was the target of a nefarious plot perpetuated by scientist Doctor Griffin Pratt and his own cabinet member Secretary Osgood. Pratt operated a cloning facility at the Vegan space port on Earth's moon. Through Osgood, they let the rumor slip that the president had been kidnapped and taken to Vegan. Federal US marshals Richard Dix and Cassandra Menage were assigned to Vegan to investigate the rumors.

As it turned out, the entire scheme was but a plot to manipulate Dix into taking the clone of President Clinton back to Earth where he would be switched out with the real one. Once the switch had been made, the plan was to assassinate the real President Clinton. The plot partially worked, but Clinton survived being murdered by Secretary Osgood thanks to the timely efforts (and aim) of Cassandra Menage.

The group knew that Osgood and Pratt intended on using their Clinton clone to alter interplanetary policy in their favor and an official announcement was going to be made at a conference in Paris, France. Dix and Cassandra (as well as several other loyal aides) brought Clinton to Paris where they attempted to switch him out with the clone at the Paris Opera House. The clone and the real president encountered one another and got into a scuffle in front of the entire audience. To prove that he was the true President Clinton, he demonstrated his ability to play a saxophone, performing songs that the clone was unable to duplicate with the same degree of accuracy. Once the plot was exposed, Pratt, Osgood and the clone were apprehended and Bill Clinton resumed his duties as President.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Bill Clinton is never addressed by name in 2001: A Space Travesty, but it is made quite clear that he was intended to reflect the 42nd President. He is credited only as Mr. President.
  • Archival footage of the actual Bill Clinton is briefly seen in the first act of the 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes. Clinton appears with several other notable historic figures as part of a radio transmission intercepted by the USAF Oberon.
