Biography[]
Bernie was actually a dead beaver, which had been stuffed. Half of its body was charred from apparent exposure to fire. He became the pet sidekick to the psychotic criminal known as Harley Quinn. Because Harley was nuts, she actually believed the beaver was not only alive, but that it actually spoke to her as well. If Harley ordered food, she would give food to Bernie as well, and imagined that he was actually eating it.
Harley once suffered from a sleepwalking disorder, and subconsciously put a hit out on herself, in order to bring all possible competitors to her front door so she could deal away with these pests, which she considered to be worse than "merskeeters". At Bernie's urging, Harley placed her own bounty at 3 million dollars.
Two members of the Brooklyn Assassin's Guild named Jerry and Karen came to collect on the debt. The firefight took place at Harley's apartment and Jerry blasted a large hole in Bernie's mid-section with an assault rifle. Bernie urged Harley to fully awaken from her somnambulist state so she could deal with them. [1]
