History[]
Reed Richards made an arrangement with the Federal Government that he would be able to conduct scientific experiments of an unconventional magnitude within the Baxter Building in exchange for public service. [1]
Reed was checking on some of his sensor devices and scanners in his laboratory when he was suddenly attacked by a fire elemental - one of four such creatures created by Diablo. The entity fired several fire balls at him, but Reed avoided them, first by flattening himself out, then by shaping himself into a small ball and bouncing about the room until he could reach the window, where he then flattened out again and glided to the street below. [2]
The Department of Homeland Security, cooperating with the Thunderbolts, provided a writ allowing them to search the premises and confiscate any technological devices they happened to find. Reed and Sue rejected this authority based upon a previous arrangement with the U.S. government. Doctor Octopus incapacitated the Richards' with inhibitor collars and then gained access to Reed's lab. [3]
