History[]
The Battle of Kashyyyk was an armed military conflict and land battle that took place towards the end of the Clone Wars and occurred in 19 BBY. It involved the forces of the Galactic Republic in opposition to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The battle took place on the planet Kashyyyk, which was home to the indigenous race known as Wookiees, who were aligned with the Galactic Republic. It was one of the final battles of the Clone Wars, and took place concurrently with the Battle of Utapau, which saw the demise of General Grievous - the last military leader of the Confederacy.
When the Jedi Council learned that the Trade Federation sent their Separatist Droid Army to attack Kashyyyk, they realized that the world was too important a planet to lose to the Confederacy. General Yoda, who had good relations with the Wookiees, personally led the clone contingent of the Grand Army of the Republic.
The majority of the battle took place near the city of Kachirho and the Wawaatt Archipelago. Yoda coordinated the Grand Army of the Republic with the Wookiee resistance, which was led by General Tarfful. The Confederacy maintained the advantage throughout most of the battle due largely to their superior siege weapons such as DSD1 dwarf spider droids, LM-432 crab droids and HMP droid gunships. Eventually though, the tide of battle began to shift in favor of the Republic.
The Battle of Kashyyyk ended inconclusively, due to sweeping changes that had been made on the political level. Following the death of General Grievous on Utapau, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine executed Order 66, which branded all members of the Jedi Order as traitors to the Republic, who were to be executed on site. Clone commanders on Kashyyyk received the order and attempted to kill General Yoda, but Yoda sensed their treachery and decapitated his assassins. With the help of a Wookiee soldier named Chewbacca, Yoda was able to escape into the jungle and eventually leave Kashyyyk.
