The Batpole, or bat-pole, is a fictional item featured in the 1966 television series Batman. Two such items were located in Wayne Manor and provided access from Bruce Wayne's office to the Batcave. By triggering a secret switch inside a bust of William Shakespeare, Bruce Wayne could open a secret panel in the library wall, which allowed his teen sidekick Dick Grayson and he, access to the Batpoles. Each Batpole was labeled with their own name and descended down into the Batcave. Sliding on the poles enabled Bruce and Dick to quickly change from civilian attire into their costumed alter egos, Batman and Robin, though the methods through how this was achieved has never been explained. The secret door automatically closed behind them after they descended the poles, though how this was accomplished has never been explained either.
