Notes & Trivia[]
- Batman was created by comic book writer Bill Finger and graphic artist Bob Kane. He first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in May, 1939.
- This issue shipped to retailers on April 16th, 1941.
- Canadian cover price is .15 CAD per copy.
- Total page count: 68 pages.
- Whitney Ellsworth is uncredited in the role of editor for this issue.
- Inker contributions by Jerry Robinson and George Roussos were confirmed by Robinson and Roussos themselves.
- This is the first issue of Batman where Bob Kane did the cover inks as well as the cover art. Previously the cover inks were verified as having been done by Jerry Robinson.
- Blooper: There are several panels in this issue where the bat emblem from Batman's costume is missing.
- As of this issue, the Joker has made more appearances than any other Batman villain, followed by Catwoman, and then Hugo Strange.
- This is the first issue of Batman that includes races other than humans or altered humans (such as seen in Batman #1 with the Monster Men).
- This is also the first issue of the series that dives deeply into the realm of absurdism including travel to alternate dimensions, and a fairy tale setting.
- "Crime Does Not Pay" introduces the character of Linda Page. She appears next in Batman #6.
- The witch's minion, Freeze, is not to be confused with Mister Freeze, who is a character that will not be introduced until Batman #121 in February, 1959.
- This is the first time that Batman is seen piloting a boat. It will later be dubbed the Batboat, making it the second "bat-themed" piece of equipment in Batman's arsenal after the Batmobile.
