Notes & Trivia[]

  • Canadian cover price is .15 CAD per copy.
  • Total page count: 68 pages.
  • This is the first issue of Batman where Bob Kane did the cover inks as well as the cover art. Previously the cover inks were verified as having been done by Jerry Robinson.
  • Blooper: There are several panels in this issue where the bat emblem from Batman's costume is missing.
  • As of this issue, the Joker has made more appearances than any other Batman villain, followed by Catwoman, and then Hugo Strange.
  • This is also the first issue of the series that dives deeply into the realm of absurdism including travel to alternate dimensions, and a fairy tale setting.
  • "Crime Does Not Pay" introduces the character of Linda Page. She appears next in Batman #6.
  • This is the first time that Batman is seen piloting a boat. It will later be dubbed the Batboat, making it the second "bat-themed" piece of equipment in Batman's arsenal after the Batmobile.
