"Chapter 1: Ordeal" is the title to the first issue of the Batman: The Cult comic book limited series published by DC Comics. The story was written by Jim Starlin with artwork and inks by Bernie Wrightson. Wrightson also rendered the cover art illustration to this issue. It was colored by Bill Wray and lettered by John Costanza. The story was edited by Denny O'Neil with Dan Raspler as assistant editor. This issue shipped in prestige squarebound format in September, 1988 and carries a cover price of $3.50 per copy (US).

- Batman was created by comic book writer Bill Finger and graphic artist Bob Kane. He first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in May, 1939. He received his first ongoing series, Batman, in the Spring, 1940 beginning with Batman #1.
