A banjo is a stringed musical instrument similar in design and function to an acoustic guitar, but produces a slightly different sound. Banjos were popularized in southern cultures and are often associated with County & Western music, Folk music, Bluegrass music, and some forms of Afro-American music. One of the most well-known Banjo compositions is called "Dueling Banjos", composed in 1954 by Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith. Anyone who has ever seen Deliverance knows that Dueling Banjos is the ditty that will cause future Superman: The Movie actor Ned Beatty no end of concern for as to the status of his buttocks. Put simply: He gets anally raped by a bunch of toothless rednecks shortly after hearing "Dueling Banjos".
In the original Fawcett Publications continuity, there was a villain known as Kurt Filpots, aka Mister Banjo, who was a foe of the original Captain Marvel. Believe it or not, this literally one-note villain was a Nazi sympathizer who delivered secret messages to the Third Reich via the musical chords of his banjo. Yeah... this guy actually succeeds in being even lamer than The Fiddler.
A DC Comics villain, The Joker, once masqueraded as a man named Banjo, which was a pastiche of Vaudeville comedian Harpo Marx, as a mean of confusing the Batman.
In the 1978 film remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a homeless man named Harry with a dog played a banjo. This individual is best remembered for being replicated as a pod person, which was a dog body with a human face. Creepy A.F.
