Bakersfield is a city in Southern California. It is located in Kern County in the San Joaquin Valley.
Bakersfield played a small yet vital role in the 1987 film The Running Man. In the film, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a Ben Richards, a military helicopter pilot from the year 2017 who is framed for a savage massacre committed in Bakersfield - one that he was actually trying to prevent. Imprisoned, Richards is forced to participate in a ruthless game show called "The Running Man", in which he is billed as the "Butcher of Bakersfield".
Bakersfield is also the birth place of actor/stunt performer Derek Mears. Derek Mears has appeared in several films and television episodes including, The Demolitionist, Men in Black II and Predators.
Actor Robert Beltran, best known for playing the role of Starfleet commander Chakotay on Star Trek: Voyager, was born in Bakersfield on November 19th, 1953.
Actress Fay Helm, who played Jenny Williams in the 1941 Universal Classics film The Wolf Man, was born in Bakersfield on April 8th, 1909.
