Biography[]
Audrey hailed from the town of Five Keys, New Mexico. During the 1940s, she married Gerald Rainier, who was a prison guard at nearby Dewbend State Penitentiary. She had two children with Gerald. Her first child was a daughter named Elise, who was born sometime around 1943. Her second child was a son named Christian, born in 1947. Audrey was aware that her daughter possessed the ability to perceive and communicate with spirits. She knew that Gerald resented this "gift" and she tried to shield Elise from his frustration as best she could.
In 1953, Elise openly demonstrated her talent as she described in detail information relating to the recently executed prisoner, Wayne Fisher. This drove Gerald into a frenzy, and he took violent action against Elise. Audrey kept the children huddled together in the bedroom they shared together. Six-year-old Christian was very frightened, so Audrey gave him a steel whistle, and told him to blow into it whenever he felt scared and she would come to him. That evening, Elise observed the spirit of what appeared to be a child scampering across the room. Christian had already lost his whistle, but Elise screamed in fright. Audrey and Gerald both rushed into the room. When Elise insisted that she had seen a ghost, he beat her across the back with his walking cane so severely that he left permanent scars on her. He then dragged her downstairs and locked her in the basement fallout shelter.
Audrey went down into the basement to check on her. However, Elise had discovered a doorway that led into a dark afterworld dimension she would later dub The Further. The demon that ruled this particular pocket of The Further, known as the KeyFace demon, wanted to tap into Elise's power in order to gain access to the greater expanse of The Further. He briefly took possession of Elise, but when Audrey advanced forward, KeyFace used his power to have over-hanging electrical cables drop down around her neck. She was hoisted into the air and hanged until she died.
Audrey's spirit became one of the many lost souls trapped inside The Further. Sixty-seven years later, the elderly Elise Rainier was forced to re-enter The Further in order to save her niece, Melissa Rainier. She encountered her father, whom she had learned had become a serial killer. She began beating on Gerald until Audrey's spirit appeared and convinced her that her father was merely another puppet of the demon, and was not the true cause of all of the hardship she had suffered. KeyFace attacked Elise directly, but Audrey took up the lantern used to guide one through the recesses of The Further and struck the demon with it, banishing him. [1]
