The atomic cauldron is a fictional item featured in comic books published by DC Comics. It was introduced during the mid-Silver Age era and first appeared in "The Feud of the Titans!" story from Action Comics #402 in July, 1971.
Superman developed the powerful atomic cauldron as a means of disposing of materials that were too dangerous to leave behind. This so-called "disintegration pit" was fueled by radioactive elements that originated from the bottled city of Kandor. These elements were so powerful that it could dissolve materials instantly. Superman maintained the atomic cauldron at his Fortress of Solitude. Some of the Doomsday weapons that were disposed of included a Jigsaw-Ray gun that could dismantle a city in seconds, and a seismotron that could generate earthquakes anywhere on the planet, as well a vapor bomb that had been used by a dictator to brainwash his subjects.
