The Atmo-Gun is a fictional weapon featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It first appeared in Fantastic Four #47 in February, 1966.
Description & History[]
The Atmo-Gun was a large weapon developed by Maximus Boltagon, during the time that he had taken control of the throne of Attilan and referred to himself as Maximus the Magnificent. The Atmo-Gun fired a blast that could generate great seismic tremors, but this was not the primary function of the weapon. It was also designed to affect human physiology, effectively wiping out all human life on Earth. Inhumans, being a genetically different species, wold be safe from the Atmo-Gun's effects. [1]
When the Royal Family and the Fantastic Four overthrew Maximus, he fired up the Atmo-Gun for one last ditch effort to end humanity. Although it did generate some ground quakes, it had not effect on human physiology. Maximus then reversed the polarity on the Atmo-Gun, which created a null field that encapsulated all of Attilan. This energy barrier remained intact, and cut the Great Refuge off from the rest of the world. [2]
