Astral projection is a super-power. It is the ability to separate one's spiritual essence from their corporeal form and allow it to function independently of their body. The astral projection of an individual is visible only to those of mystic endowment or psychic sensitives. Practitioners of magic such as Doctor Strange or Morgan Le Fay possess this ability.
In the continuity of the Locke & Key family of comic book titles, a mystical artifact called the Ghost key enabled one the ability to project their astral self from their body. As with most examples of this ability, the absence of the soul left the user's corporeal form unconscious and vulnerable.
