- The character of Astra was created by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Ali Adler and director Glen Winter.
- In Hinduism, an astra is a supernatural weapon, presided over by a specific deity. Later it came to denote any weapon which was used by releasing it from one hands.
- As Astra was the twin sister of Alura Zor-El, actress Laura Benanti also played Alura, as well as the hologram version of Alura seen at the Fortress of Solitude.
