Allusions[]
- Brandy Barr actually uses the phrase "Evil Dead" in this episode. This is a reference to the programs' film franchise progenitor The Evil Dead.
- The stinger for this episode is a reference to an unused ending intended for the 1992 film Army of Darkness. In the film, the original ending was going to be that Ash Williams drinks too much of the sleeping potion from the Middle Ages and over-sleeps, awakening many years in the future in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The ending of this episode borrows from that idea.
- In the apocalyptic future timeline, the 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 gets an upgrade. It now has a bulldozer plow on the front with the words "Hail to the King" spray-painted upon it. This is a phrase that Ash himself spoke while referencing himself in Army of Darkness.
Quotes[]
- Ash Williams: Pablo, how many times you heard me say this, huh? Why me? Who am I? Nobody. Nobody! Guy from Elk Grove, Michigan. Where the fuck is that? In the middle of jack shit nowhere, that's where. You know what? I got news for you! I didn't ask for this! You think I want this horse shit? Be covered in blood twenty-four/seven? Who the fuck would want that?
....
- Pablo Simon Bolivar: It's Kandar... the Destroyer. It's come to test the mettle of man.
....
- Pablo Simon Bolivar: This is it, Ash. Everything that's ever been foretold. The Necronomicon... your destiny. It all comes down to this moment. It's the final test, Jefe.
....
- Brandy Barr: Where are we going?
- Ash Williams: YOU are going out of town.
- Brandy Barr: No, I'm not leaving now!
- Ash Williams: You can't stay here. Evil has a bullseye on my back the size of Tiger Stadium. I can't put you in any more danger.
- Brandy Barr: Well, I can take care of myself.
- Ash Williams: No!
- Brandy Barr: Why not?
- Ash Williams: Because I can't watch you die again!
....
- Brandy Barr: Enough! I don't know much about the Evil Dead crap, and I know even less about why it chose you. But it did. You're the "Savior of Humanity", so get on your damn feet and own up to who you are! In the short time that I have known you, I have seen things that I never thought existed. Seen you do things that I never thought possible. You taught me to trust you, you taught me to believe in you. And I do. Please, don't let me down now.
....
- Brandy Barr: Three days ago my biggest concern was getting out of Elk Grove. Now I'm under it, with Ashy Slashy, who turns out to be my father, and we're facing the end of humanity.
- Ash Williams: Yep. That's a helluva shit sandwich, kiddo. I eat 'em every day.
