Army of Darkness/Xena: Warrior Princess: Forever... and a Day
Ash vs. the Army of Darkness is an American comic book limited series of the action, horror, and comedy genres. It is based on the Evil Dead film series by Renaissance Pictures. The series was published by Dynamite Entertainment and ran for five regular issues from June to November, 2017. Stories were written by Chris Sims & Chad Bowers with artwork and inks by Mauro Vargas. It was colored by Triona Farrell and lettered by Tom Napolitano. The series was edited by Anthony Marques with Joe Rybandt as executive editor. Ash finds out the hard way that major corporations frown upon the dismemberment of Deadites on company property and has to seek a new form of employment. What better place for the man with the chainsaw hand to be than in the public school system! The Chosen One goes undercover as a substitute teacher to find out who is messing with the Necronomicon. Along the way he encounters a secret government agency called S.M.A.R.T. who are charged with ridding the world of the undead menace. Oh, and they have modeled themselves after the methods of everyone’s new favorite “cool” teacher.
Each issue of the series shipped with a variant cover as well as black and white second printing variant covers.
The special zero issue was released in June, 2017 - prior to the start of the series.
All six issues, plus the zero issue, were reprinted in trade paperback format, which was released on June 13th, 2018.
One of the variant covers to Ash vs. the Army of Darkness #2 is a pastiche of the film poster for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, which is turn is an homage to the film poster from the 1985 movie The Breakfast Club.
