The character of Arthur Douglas was created by writer Mike Friedrich and writer/artist Jim Starlin.

A version of Drax was represented in the 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy feature film. He was played by former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista.

During his time with the Infinity Watch, Drax was charged with guardianship of the Power Gem. In his own dim-witted way, he believed the best means of protecting it was to eat it.
