Biography[]

On Halloween night, Art spots two friends, Tara and Dawn, drunkenly leave a party & follows them to a pizzeria. There, he stares menacingly at the two and makes advances at Tara, which unnerve her before Art gets kicked out by the restaurant owner for smearing feces over the bathroom walls. The girls leave the pizzeria to discover that one of Dawn's car tires has been slashed. Meanwhile, Art returns to the pizzeria, killing and mutilating two workers with a cleaver.

Art eventually gets into Dawn's car and attacks her before kidnapping her; he would also chase down Tara before eventually subduing her with a sedative.

Tara awakens, bound to a chair inside a derelict warehouse to see Art has Dawn suspended upside-down. Taking a hacksaw, Art forces Tara to watch as he saws Dawn in half vertically. After posing for several pictures with Dawn's camera in front of her corpse, Art hunts down Tara but she strikes him with a 2x4; after recovering, Art strikes Tara and goes to get some bullets before he shoots her in the head repeatedly. A nearby homeless woman witnesses this and seeks out help, only to be dismissed. Art attacks a pest controller named Mike working nearby with a hammer, knocking him unconscious. The homeless woman soon discovers Art cradling her doll, and in a plea for the return of her "child", attempts to show motherly compassion to Art by cradling him. This however fails as Art scalps and tears off the woman's breasts.

Soon, Tara's sister Vicky arrives to take Tara and Dawn home and is discovered by Art. Art chases and corners her into a locker but turns his attention to Mike's co-worker Will and decapitates him. Art chases down Vicky again, who briefly escapes him but stops upon finding her sister's corpse. Art catches up to her and attacks her with a makeshift cat o' nine tails, but a recovered Mike knocks Art unconscious. The two flee and call 9-1-1, but Art recovers and kills Mike by stomping his head. Vicky retreats into a garage, but Art rams through the door and hits her with a pickup truck, incapacitating her. As she lies unconscious, Art begins to mutilate and eat her face. The police finally arrive, but Art shoots himself inside his mouth before he can be apprehended.

After the police discover Vicky is still alive, Art's body and those of his slain victims are taken to a morgue, where the medical examiner unzips Art's body bag. Art suddenly reanimates and attacks him.

Immediately after his mysterious revival, Art brutally murders the coroner inspecting his body and steals some of his equipment to make more deadly weapons. Whilst washing his clothes in a nearby laundry, he meets a little girl in a clown attire similar to his, who is implied to be responsible for his resurrection. A customer discovers the two of them interacting and Art murders him with the end of a broken mop handle before dressing himself back up and leaving the laundry.

Art the Clown 001

A year later, Art's victim from the first movie Victoria is released from hospital care and goes to an interview in Monica Brown's show, which Art and the Little Pale Girl watch through their miniature television. When Victoria insists that Art could not be still alive after she and two cops had witnessed him killing himself, the psychopathic clown destroys the TV in a fit of rage. As his next victims, Art stalks the siblings Sienna and Jonathan Shaw, whose father died from a brain tumor, with Art framing Jonathan for bringing a dead opossum to school, which gets him suspended, and confronting Sienna to a costume shop before murdering the shop's owner through decapitation. Jonathan discovers his father's sketchbook, where he has multiple drawings of Art, his previous victims and Sienna in a Valkyrie-angel warrior costume, which she decided to create for Halloween night. However, neither Sienna nor the siblings' mother Barbara would believe him and Barbara ultimately hit Jonathan for calling her a "bitch," prompting him to flee from home. Meanwhile, Art tries to ask Sienna's best friend Allie for candy but she rejects his demands and comes to notice Art's tools in his bag, leaving her anxious.

Later that night, Art breaks into Allie's home and attacks her mercilessly, ripping her hair off her head, scalping her back, removing her left arm, tearing her right hand in half and slashing her numerous times with a blade. He returns and sadistically pours salt and bleach into her wounds before removing part of her face that reveals her skull. Allie's mother eventually returns home and is horrified upon seeing Art with her daughter's heavily mutilated and unrecognizable body but Art quickly kills her and uses her severed head as a bowl to give candy to children. After Sienna departs for Halloween night with her other best friend Brooke, Barbara finds her car vandalized with eggs, shaving cream and toilet paper, leading her to believe Jonathan had vandalized it in revenge for tearing his father's sketchbook and not believing him. As an enraged Barbara cleans the car, she finds Art inside and he blows her head apart with a sawn-off shotgun. After the Little Pale Girl lures Jonathan back home, Art mocks him by shoving mashed potatoes into the destroyed mouth of his mother's corpse before injecting him with a serum to render him unsconscious. Art and the Little Pale Girl then take Jonathan to the abandoned Terrifier horror house to lure Sienna out and kill her, which they successfully do when the Little Pale Girl perfectly mimicks Jonathan's voice on the phone.

After Art murders Brooke and her boyfriend Jeff, a cat-and-mouse chase occurs in the Terrifier house and Art severely wounds both siblings. Despite Sienna landing numerous blows to Art's head that would have been fatal for an ordinary human, the apparently immortal clown survives all wounds and manages to kill Sienna by stabbing her with her father's sword before attempting to eat Jonathan alive. Fortunately, the sword reveals its magical abilities and revives Sienna, who proceeds to slash at Art mercilessly multiple times with her sword to keep him away from Jonathan. Upon having been brought to his knees, Art initially seems enraged that his plan to kill Sienna failed but then smirks at her as if a sign of respect, having finally found someone that could stand up to him in strength and even unnatural capabilities. Confident that he would return to life once again, he allows her to decapitate him, which she does in retribution for him attempting to murder her little brother and killing her mother and best friends. Sienna and Jonathan witness the Little Pale Girl picking up Art's severed head and she departs with it in her hands, electing not to further harm the Shaw siblings.

As the celebrations of Halloween are coming to an end, Victoria, who was placed in a psychiatric institution for mauling Monica Brown with her bare hands following the aforementioned interview, gives birth to Art's decapitated yet reanimated head and laughs manically as a nurse screams at the horrific sight.

The 9th Circle[]

Art gives Casey a flower

Art offers Casey some flowers.

A young woman named Casey was sitting by herself at the Realmsville Station waiting for a train. appeared before Casey, sitting in the row of chairs directly across from her. After startling her with a bulb horn, the clown got up and sat down next to her. He presented Casey with a bouquet of plastic flowers, but Casey freaked out when she discovered a cockroach crawling around within. The clown silently laughed at her, then injected with a drug that knocked her out. Before slipping into unconsciousness, she observed Art with glowing, yellow demonic eyes slowly waving at her, indicating that he was something other than human.

Terrifier Film Short[]

Art's getting busy

Art gets busy.

Art the Clown was found at the Last Chance Gas station on a remote rural road late in the evening. He had used the public restroom, wherein he vandalized the area by smearing his own urine and fecal matter all over the walls, which enraged the attendant. As the attendant forced Art to leave the area, the clown noticed a young woman who had stopped at the station to get some gas. Art walked away, but looped around to the other side of the station and broke into the building, raising a clatter. The attendant heard the noise and went back inside. Art attacked him, and began dismembering him with a variety of tools. The young woman entered the building and found Art just as he had finished decapitating the attendant.

Art looked up and smiled menacingly at her. He held up the attendant's severed head with glee as the woman ran outside to vomit. She scrambled to get to her car and quickly drove off.

As she drove, the woman kept trying to call 911, but the signal kept breaking up. As she drove, she inexplicably saw Art hitchhiking on the side of the road holding up a sign that read "Circus". Exclaiming how this was "impossible", she sped up and nearly collided with a van. She then stopped the vehicle so she could collect herself.

Art at the window

"Can I get a ride, lady?"

Art suddenly appeared and tried to get into her car, but both doors were locked. The woman screamed and hit the accelerator. A ways down the road, she spotted a parked car with its emergency lights on. She stopped and observed the driver leaning against the car horn. She opened the driver side door and pulled the person back only to reveal that they were barely alive. Their face had been completely severed and their hands had been cut off. The woman got back into her own vehicle and drove off again screaming.

Picking up her cell phone, she tried to telephone her boyfriend Nick, but the call was suddenly cut off. She shouted her lover's name into the phone, but gets no reply. Suddenly, Art the Clown appeared in the back seat of her car. He pulled a piece of plastic wrap around the woman's head and began suffocating her. She struggled to rip the plastic off her face and upon doing so, slammed on the breaks, sending Art flying forward into the dashboard.

The woman got out of the car and ran into the woods. She eventually came upon a decrepit brick building and ran inside. She closed the large double doors and barricaded them shut with a metal pole. Art tried to force his way through the door, but eventually gave up.

Art and his gear

Art and his gear.

The woman slumped down to rest for a while, but Art burrowed up from the earthen floor of the structure. He took up a length of chain laced with barb wire, syringes and other assorted blades and began repeatedly whipping the woman across the back and face. The woman picked up a scalpel that had fallen off the chain and stabbed Art in his right eye. As he turned around in pain, the woman picked up a knife that she spotted on the floor and plunges it into her back. She then lifted the pole barricading the door and raced outside. Running down the road, she spotted a motorist coming towards her and flagged him down. The man stopped and offered to help, but the woman told him to "just drive". The man offered to take her to the police station.

Woman on table

Things are about to get a whole lot worse.

Suddenly, they spotted a pair of headlights bearing down on them. The car swept up beside them and they could see that it was Art. Art looked over, smiled and produced a handgun, which he used to shoot the driver in the head. The vehicle veered off the road and smashed into a tree. The woman was knocked unconscious.

She awakened sometime later and discovered that she was lying on a metal table in some sort of abattoir. A quick scan of the room showed a display of various human body parts and viscera as well as numerous bladed objects. Art appeared and pointed two fingers at her and began silently laughing. The woman looked down to discover that she was naked. Moreover, and to her horror, her arms and legs had been amputated and her body has been slashed up with the words "Pig", "Slut", and "C*nt" carved into her flesh. The woman screamed in abject agony as the clown continued to go through a fit of maniacal laughter; never making a sound.

Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Elusive movement: Per the original 2011 film short, Art the Clown has the ability to relocate himself from one distance to another without detection. This goes beyond just being quick or sneaky. This ability transcends the laws of physics and allows him to relocate himself from a starting position to a destination point in a span of time that belies normal human capability. The nature of this is unclear, but it seems to work upon a lesser form of teleportation. This ability is likely supernatural in nature.
  • Resurrection: Through supernatural influence, Art the Clown has the ability to physically reconstitute himself from death. This ability is imbued upon him by a demonic entity that empowers him. In one instance, Art reanimated following a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. In another instance, after being decapitated, Art's head was literally reborn through the vessel of Victoria Heyes.

Skills[]

  • Stealth: Art the Clown has an uncanny ability to hide in plain sight. He mostly only emerges on Halloween when the sight of a clown may not turn many heads, but he has also been shown to be active during the Christmas holiday season. For example. Art was able to replace a hired Santa Claus at the Winter Wonderland set up in a shopping mall before any of the mall's security staff became aware that he was not supposed to be there.

Equipment[]

  • Bulb horn: Art uses a small bulb horn as part of his clown shtick. He likes unnerving potential victims by approaching them and then squeezing the horn right next to him, causing them to jump.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The character of Art the Clown was created by writer and director Damien Leone.
  • Art's original appearances in The 9th Circle and the Terrifier film short are not considered part of canon continuity.
