Notes & Trivia[]
- Aquaman was created by writer Mort Weisinger and artist Paul Norris. He first appeared in the seventh story in More Fun Comics #73 in November, 1941 titled "The Submarine Strikes". The original Aquaman was a human who was an Olympic-level swimmer during the Golden Age era. It wasn't until the "Aquaman's Undersea Partner" story from Adventure Comics #229 in October, 1956 that he developed his aquatic Atlantean heritage.
- This issue is reprinted in black and white in the Showcase Presents: Aquaman, Volume 2 trade paperback collection.
- The story from this issue is divided into three chapters.
- This is the first appearance of Mera.
- It is possible that one of the octopi that comes to Aquaman's aid might be Topo, but this is not made clear.
- This issue establishes Xebel as a scientist from Dimension Aqua. In the New 52 continuity, Xebel is a kingdom in Dimension Aqua, also known as the "Lost Colony".
