Ant-Man is an American superhero film of the superhero fantasy genre. It is based on a character featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is the twelfth movie in the shared continuity known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was released following the mega-blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film was directed by Peyton Reed with a screenplay written by Adam McKay. It was produced by Marvel Studios and the Walt Disney Company and released theatrically in the United States on July 17th, 2015.
Ant-Man had languished in developmental hell for several years before finally coming to fruition. At its inception, the film was conceived as a comedy with Edgar Wright tapped to direct. As time went on, Marvel Studios enjoyed new-found success with their ever-growing cinematic universe, and it was decided by the powers that be (namely, Kevin Feige), that Ant-Man was to be thematically in-line with their shared continuity. Namely: less silliness and more action. Through the course of pre-production, creative differences arose, and Edgar Wright eventually left the project. Peyton Reed was brought on board to replace him.
Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd in the role of ex-con Scott Lang, who finds himself inheriting the awesome responsibility of a costume that renders him really teensy-tiny, aka, Ant-Man (Yes Paul, it's too late to change the name). The film also stars Michael Douglas as the inventor of the costume Hank Pym with Evangeline Lilly as Rudd's love interest Hope van Dyne. Other stars include Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, aka Yellowjacket, Judy Greer as Maggie and Bobby Cannavale as Paxton.

- This movie wrapped shooting on the same day that principal photography on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice concluded.
- Oddly enough, Scott Lang's next appearance was actually in a Coca-Cola commercial that premiered during Super Bowl 50 in February, 2016.
- In the comics, Scott Lang first became the Ant-Man in Marvel Premiere #47 in April, 1979. This issue also introduced the characters of Cassie Lang and Darren Cross.
