  • Mia and John's first home is in Santa Monica, California. After the home invasion, they move to the Palmeri Apartments in Pasadena. The Langham Apartments in Los Angeles doubled for the interior, basement, and elevator of the Palmeri Apartments.
  • The main events of this movie take place in October, 1970 according to a newspaper headline. This is consistent with audio news footage detailing the arrest of the Manson Family members, which was conducted in December, 1969, though news reports of the arrests and pending trial would have carried on throughout the year. The opening scene takes place one year before the main events of this film. The closing scene takes place six months prior to the opening scene, which is when Debbie's mother purchases the doll.
  • Annabelle Higgins abandoned her mother and father to join a cult two years prior to the main events of the film, and three years prior to the opening scene, which would be 1968.
  • Series creator and executive producer James Wan directed the elevator scene from this movie.
  • A book that Mia reads indicates that the demon Malthus is said to be an earl of Belial, who is often portrayed with down-sweeping horns and is associated with the image of the Ram. The cult that Annabelle Higgins belongs to is called The Disciples of the Ram.
  • When John gives the box containing the doll to Mia, the words Ravens Fair can be seen on the side. Ravens Fair is the name of the principal setting from the 2007 film Dead Silence, directed by James Wan. Though not officially canon, it may be surmised that Dead Silence takes place in the same shared continuity as the Annabelle films and The Conjuring.
  • A Raggedy Ann doll can be seen in the thrift store at the end of the film. This is a reference to the actual Annabelle doll, which was in fact a cloth Raggedy Ann doll and not the porcelain figure seen in the movie.
  • John and Mia Form lived at 307 Gardner Road in Santa Monica, California.
