Anna is a fictional ghost and a minor character featured in the Insidious film series. She appeared in the 2018 feature film Insidious: The Last Key, which is the fourth installment in the series. She was played by actress Aleque Reid in the film.
Biography[]
Anna, surname unknown, lived in the town of Five Keys, New Mexico. Around the year 1962, she was abducted by serial killer Gerald Rainier. Gerald held her prisoner in the basement of his home where he kept her chained to the floor. Gerald's sixteen-year-old daughter, Elise, who had the ability to see ghosts, discovered Anna as she was trying to escape. However, at this point, Elise could not distinguish between the dead and the living, and assumed that she was a spirit trapped inside the house. After Gerald drove Elise away, he murdered Anna, who then truly became a ghost.
Decades later, an elderly Elise Rainier returned to her childhood home at the behest of its current owner, Ted Garza, who complained that the house was haunted. The ghost of Anna appeared before Elise and took from her a toy whistle that once belonged to Elise's brother, Christian. Anna's spirit manifested at different points, screaming to Elise to "Help her!" Using the whistle, Anna was able to guide Elise to a blocked off room in the basement. Apparently, Ted Garza, corrupted by the same demonic entity that once influenced Elise's father, followed his tradition in kidnapping nurses and chaining them up in the basement. Anna helped Elise find and rescue a woman named Mara Jennings. After Mara was freed, and Garza was killed, Anna's spirit disappeared. [1]

- The character of Anna W. was created by director Adam Robitel and writer Leigh Whannell.
- In the film, the character is credited only as Anna. One scene shows Anna's hospital name tag with the last name largely obscured, but the letter W is plainly visible.
- It is possible that Anna worked at Northfolk Hospital, which is the only hospital indicated by name in the film.
- Anna was one of several victims of Gerald Rainier. In 2010, Elise Rainier found luggage containers, which included the skulls of his victims, as well as some personal affects, including clothing.
- Actress Aleque Reid received ninth billing in Insidious: The Last Key.
