The Angler is a fictional weapon featured in comic books published by DC Comics. Though it is usually associated with titles involving Wonder Woman, it actually made its first appearance in a Secret Society of Super-Villains story from DC Special Series #6 in November, 1977.

History[]

The Angler was forged by scientists from the planet Apokolips. It was surreptitiously given to a small-time Earth criminal named Angelo Bend, who was better known by his costumed identity as the Angle Man. Angle Man was in prison at the time, but he was left instructions by his mysterious benefactors on how to use the Angler to bend space and time and make his escape.

The Angler possessed the ability to alter reality by projecting volumes of matter outside of the normal universe, twisting them at a ninety degree angle so that when they return, their properties exist in reverse.

Angle Man used the Angler while fighting against an alert and spry Batman, briefly shunting him into an alternate dimension. When he reappeared however, he was in a comatose state.

He then used the Angler to incapacitate Green Lantern, and twisted the fabric of reality to reveal the invisible pocket dimension wherein his Green Lantern power battery was stored when not in use. Captain Comet managed to get his hold on the Angler and used it to revive Superman and Wonder Woman, who had likewise been left in a death-like state due to the actions of the Angle Man's allies in the Secret Society of Super-Villains.
