Plot[]
Anna Victoria Alcott and Dexter Harding go to the police about the recent break-in at their apartment, but are saddened to find that the police can do very little. Anna continues to suffer from hallucinations and takes note of strange individuals, whom she suspects might be potential stalkers. Her publicist Siobhan Corbyn tells Anna to get her act together and that she has been bending over backwards to get her a seat at the Gotham Awards. She even provides her with a dress that Madonna wore to the Oscars in 1991.
Anna and Dexter are overjoyed to discover that she has conceived a child. However, Anna's hallucinations increase in intensity. Anna's frustration also increases when she learns that an awards competitor named Babette Eno is proving to be just as popular as she is.
At the Gotham Awards, Anna feels queasy and goes to the restroom. She encounters a super-fan, who makes her feel uncomfortable. Anna suddenly becomes violently ill, and when the fan tries to assist her, Anna shoves her back with such intensity that the woman slams her head against the corner of the sink and falls to the floor. Blood begins gushing from her head and she appears to be dead. Anna goes back out to the auditorium where she is announced as the winner of this year's Gotham Award. During her acceptance speech, Anna begins vomiting black bile and has to be taken away. Siobhan promises her that she can mitigate any publicity disasters that might arise as a result.
The following day, Anna goes to the fertility clinic for a check-up. A nurse named Ivy Ehrenreich tells her that she is there to administer an ultrasound. Ivy refuses to let Anna look at the monitor screen. When Ivy removes the ultrasound wand, Anna observes that there is blood on the tip.
On the way home, Anna has another episode, which causes her to miscarry. Dexter and she immediately return to the clinic. Anna tells Doctor Hill about her ultrasound with Nurse Ivy, but Hill insists that no such woman works at the clinic.
