"The Birth of a Super-Hero!" is the title to the forty-second issue of the first Amazing Spider-Man ongoing comic series published by Marvel Comics. The story was written by Stan Lee with pencil and ink work by John Romita. Romita also composed the cover art illustration for this issue with Stan Goldberg as cover colorist. No credit is given for the colorist on the interior pages. It was lettered by Sam Rosen and edited by Stan Lee. This issue shipped with a November, 1966 cover date and carried a cover price of 12 cents per copy (US). In this issue, John Jameson is affected by space spores that give him super-strength. Urged to believe that Spider-Man is now a bank-robber, he goes off to confront him.
