Notes & Trivia[]

  • The character of Spider-Man was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. He first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 in August, 1962 in a story titled "Spider-Man!" The character has since gone on to become one of the most well-known and enduring super-heroes of all time, having appeared in numerous comic book titles, as well as feature films, animated projects and video games.
  • "ASM 233" serves as a shortcut to this page.
  • This issue was released in both the direct market and newsstand editions. The direct market edition has an M-shaped cover price box whereas the newsstand has the standard rectangular box.
  • The tagline to this issue is "This is it! Genuine uncensored thrill-filled spider-action! (Accept not substitutes!)" The irony of this tagline is the use of the word uncensored considering there is a censor in the title to this story.
  • Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter is credited as working for the "Lost & Found" department for this issue.
  • This is the first, and to date, only known appearance of Frank, who is an undercover police officer looking for Nose Norton.
  • A rather racially insensitive panel shows an African American man running away from Spider-Man with his hair pick flying out of his afro.
