Amanda Waller is a fictional government administrator and supporting character featured in comic books published by DC Comics. She is most commonly associated with the Suicide Squad line of comic book titles. She first appeared in Legends #1 in November, 1986.
Biography[]
Amanda Waller always seemed destined for government work. Ever since the murder of her husband and two of her children, she developed a steely resolve and a commitment towards maintaining security. Having rose through the intricate webbing of America's intelligence community, Waller was not above compromising accepted societal ethics to get the job done. Her broad features, brusque demeanor and lack of diplomatic etiquette earned her the uncomplimentary nickname "The Wall".
Amanda Waller spear-headed a renewed version of the government special operations team, Task Force X, with a response unit comprised of incarcerated criminals who possessed special talents; the types of hardened heavy-hitters that some might call super-villains. To keep these agents in line, Waller fitted them with explosive devices that would maim or kill them if they attempted to escape. In exchange for their service, provided they survived whatever mission Waller put them on, they received time cut off of their respective sentences. This special black-ops detachment of Task Force X came to be known as the Suicide Squad.
After supervising Suicide Squad operations for many years, Amanda Waller continued to climb the counter-intelligence ladder. She became the director of teh Department of Extranormal Operations under the administration of U.S. President Alexander Luthor, and was later named White Queen of the espionage agency known as Checkmate.
