Sixteen-year-old Kamala Khan is the new Ms. Marvel. After battling a junk monster in a scrapyard, she receives a cell-phone call from her mother telling her that she is late for her cousin's mehndi (a Muslim pre-wedding party). She super-stretchy leaps across Jersey City and makes a quick stop at the Circle Q to clean-up and converse with her friend Bruno Carrelli (who is aware of Kamala's secret identity). Despite changing clothes, she cannot get the smell of trash off her body. She gets to the mehndi were she engages in a prolonged argument with her mother. Her mother tells her that she is grounded, but Kamala quietly replies, "Wanna bet...?"
