- The Aliens franchise was created by director Ridley Scott and screenplay writer Dan O'Bannon. It was first brought to life in the 1979 sci-fi/horror movie Alien, which spawned multiple sequels, prequels, and crossover films. Other notable directors in the franchise include James Cameron, David Fincher, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and Paul W.S. Anderson.
- The Predator was created by director John McTiernan and screenplay writers Jim Thomas and John Thomas. They were introduced as an unidentified alien species in the 1987 sci-fi/action feature film Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. This film spawned several sequels as well as crossover films with the Aliens film series. Dark Horse Comics acquired the license to produce Predator comic book titles, beginning with the first four-issue limited series, Predator in 1989.
