Biography[]
Alice Neely was a seven-year-old girl who lived in Springwood, Ohio, and possibly even lived on Elm Street. Little is known about Alice save that she was the first murder victim of a man named Fred Krueger, who killed Alice in February, 1966.
In the early 1990s, Freddy's biological daughter, Maggie Burroughs, had a dream vision in which she saw Freddy trying to seduce Alice with a lollipop. Alice tried to run away and threatened to tell her mother, but Freddy was took quick for her, and captured her easily. As this was presented as a dream, it is unclear whether these specific details actually took place. [1]
Notes & Trivia[]
- The character of Alice Neely was created by writer Andy Mangels and artist David Day & Dan Day based on concepts originally developed by Wes Craven.
- Alice Neely is the first murder victim of Freddy Krueger.
- As the existence and history of Alice Neely has not been officially endorsed by New Line Cinema, her placement in A Nightmare on Elm Street narrative history is considered non-canonical.
- Alice Neely is not explicitly shown to be a resident of Elm Street, but it is a fair assumption to make considering Freddy Krueger's predilection towards taking his victims from that location.
- A record of Alice Neely's date of death was reported in a newspaper article which was made available on microfiche at the Springwood Public Library.
- In the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason there is a young blonde haired girl shown in a dream/flashback sequence who could possibly be a canonical analog for Alice Neely, though there has never been any official connection made between the two, notably since Alice's first appearance occurred twelve years prior to the production of Freddy vs. Jason. It is unlikely that the film crew took inspiration from the comics, so any similarities between Alice and the little girl are strictly coincidental.
- Another possible connection to the films relates to the "Elm Street girls", who are a trio of girls seen jumping rope as part of Nancy Thompson's dream sequence. The girls are dressed similarly to Alice Neely and appear to be approximately the same age. None of the Elm Street girl have ever been identified by name in a canonical source however, so any connection between Alice and they is purely speculative.
- Another horror character who was born in 1959 and bears the first name of Alice is Alice Hardy, who was the protagonist of the 1980 film Friday the 13th, and also made a small appearance in its direct sequel, Friday the 13th Part 2.
- Another character from the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise with the first name Alice is Alice Johnson, who was the central protagonist of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child.
